Treatment of Back Pain


Sciatica”, Non-Specific Low-Back Pain, Acute Lumbar Injury
Low back pain is one of the most common ailments that affects people acutely and chronically. The most common causes of back pain include irritation of the superficial nerves of the back and pain stemming from unstable ligaments of the lumbar spine and sacrum.
Patients commonly refer to “sciatica pain” which they define as back pain radiating from the low back to the buttock, thigh and leg. But, more commonly, this “sciatica” pain is actually irritation of the superficial lumbar nerves as they pass over the top of the iliac crest (the large pelvic bone in your low back) and travel to the lateral hip, posterior thigh or groin. This pain has also been shown to be from “referred pain” from the injured lumbosacral ligaments. 
Acute and chronic irritation of the these nerves leads to pain and “stiffness” of the lumbar muscles making it difficult to walk, stand upright or bend over. Perineural Injection Therapy is a good option to help heal these commonly irritated nerves which decreases pain and low back stiffness.
