Conditions We Treat
The hip joint is one of the most important joints in the human body. It allows us to walk, run, and jump. It bears our body’s weight and the force of the strong muscles of the hip and leg. Yet the hip joint is also one of our most flexible joints and allows a greater range of motion than all other joints in the body except for the shoulder.
Pain in the hip, groin and thigh is very common. There are many nerves that cause pain in this area. The hip, as all joints, is innervated by articular nerves which govern the function of the joint. Many people that have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the hip have significant pain. But, half of patients with “bone on bone” arthritis have no pain. Many people that have had hip replacement surgery also still suffer from pain. Pain comes from nerves primarily so the focus is on treating those nerves and not on radiologic images.
Many athletes also suffer from hip and groin pain. Cyclists commonly get dysfunction of the genitofemoral nerve. Sprinters commonly get a “friction syndrome” as nerves pass over the pubic bone. Athletes of many disciplines have experienced hamstring pain which is most comm only related to dysfunction of the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve. Most of these conditions are successfully treated with Perineural Injection Therapy.
Greg Reser, MD
“One of the most gratifying aspects of my clinic is seeing a patient walk in with debilitating pain and walk out feeling dramatically improved. Treating acute or chronic pain has been one of the motivating factors for my pursuit in learning Neural Prolotherapy. It is amazing to myself and the patient to have their pain extinguished. I have received more than one hug for treating patients that suffer from this severe pain.”
