Conditions We Treat
The goal of Personalized Medicine is to give advice to patients as accurately as possible. Most current medical advice is “evidence-based”. But, this evidence is from scientific journals that apply to large populations. What if you are different than other individuals? With the rapid innovations in genetic testing, the time for truly Personalized Medicine is upon us.
MD2.0 uses the most advanced testing available allowing the physician to counsel patients on nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, stress and athletic performance. Nutrigenomics gives us information on how nutrients affect genes and how our different genes affect food preferences and eating behaviors. We are now able to give you an individualized prescription that allows you to make the most informed decision possible to maximize your health.
An example of this is the different risk associated with coffee consumption and cardiovascular disease. Are you a “rapid” or “slow metabolizer” of caffeine? The answer lies in your CYP1A2 gene. It is valuable to know because those that are “slow metabolizers” (CYP1A2 C:C and A:C alleles) are at increased risk of heart attack as they consume more coffee. Those that are “rapid metabolizers”(CYP1A2 A:A) have been shown to exhibit cardio-protective effects when drinking 2-3 cups of coffee per day. It is thought that if you possess the gene that enables you to break down caffeine quickly, it then allows the many other beneficial substances in coffee to potentially benefit your heart. Whereas, “slow metabolizers” are at 4 times higher risk of heart attack if they drink moderate amounts of coffee.
MD2.0 Genomic analysis includes the evaluation of >200 SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) which evaluate nutrition, sleep patterns, supplementation, weight loss and athletic performance.

“When you can do what you want without your body slowing you down, it leads to a happier life. In Arizona, our weather is (usually) so sunny that the weather doesn’t slow you down. Your body should be the same way. You shouldn’t have to worry about whether it’s rainy outside or if you body is in pain. Just plan your activity and go for it!”
